A Prickly Surpise on the Tennis Court!

With Wimbledon week fast approaching, one of our young people was making the most of the sunshine and enjoying a game of tennis on our school court. Little did they know that their match was about to be interrupted by a rather unusual visitor!

As they played, they spotted something curious moving around on the court. Upon closer inspection it became clear that this was not a stray piece of sports equipment, it was in fact a tiny hoglet – a baby hedgehog snuffling its way across the court!

The little hedgehog was carefully rescued by a member of staff and taken to the nearby Shepreth Wildlife Park, where it could receive the care and attention it needed. Everyone was delighted to know that the hoglet was in safe hands, but the surprises did not end there.

Around an hour later, another young person made an equally exciting discovery when they spotted a second tiny hoglet nearby. This little one was also safely collected and taken to Shepreth Wildlife Park, where staff were able to reunite the two unexpected arrivals and begin caring for them.

The two hoglets, who turned out to be sisters, quickly settled into their new surroundings. Later that week, one of our classes had a planned visit to Shepreth Wildlife Park and we were lucky enough to have the opportunity to check in on the pair. The children were thrilled to see the hoglets looking happy, healthy, and enjoying their temporary new home while they received the specialist care they needed.

We are incredibly proud of our young people for spotting the hoglets, showing kindness and care towards wildlife, and helping these little creatures get the support they needed.
